Small-Town Natives Are Moving Back Home

Heidi Deddens is the managing editor of Comment magazine. She holds an MA in Interdisciplinary Humanities with a focus on English Literature from Trinity Western University, where she was managing editor of the university's literary journal. Born and raised in Western Canada, she now lives in Ottawa.

Many young people have chosen to move back to their rural hometowns, exchanging prosperity for a rooted life. Without these “homecomers,” Gracy Olmstead writes, “America’s divisions will grow more marked as we divide into red and blue, into ‘winner-take-all cities’ and depleted rural areas.”
